2024: Turbine Creative - Year in Review

Updated: Dec 19

Some highlights from an eventful year of potent promotions, cracking comms campaigns and insightful innovations...

2024 was another eventful year for Turbine Creative. We celebrated our 4th birthday, welcomed new staff, new clients, partnered with some incredibly innovative companies and even got to visit Paris for the 2024 Olympics! Another action packed 12 months 🎉

As ever, we’ve enjoyed a great year of creating impactful marketing and educational content for both long-term clients and new partnerships. Videos, animations, digital content and promotional campaigns to help local, national and international clients communicate with their chosen audience.

We’ve also really enjoyed being inspired by industry events this year - both large and small scale. Giving the team a chance to both speak at these events and also connect in-person with our growing professional network. Helping us build deeper connections, continually learn new skills and collaborate with like-minded, ambitious companies.

We were also really pleased to be nominated as finalists in the East Midlands Chamber Awards for Excellence in Collaboration for our work with 4 x NHS Trusts on various Cancer Pathway campaigns .

So that’s your top level overview… here’s some of the highlights in a little more detail:

YEAR OF THE PARIS OLYMPICS

Who doesn’t love the Olympics!? And this year was extra special with it being in Paris, just a stone’s throw across the English Channel, in one of Europe’s finest cities.

We were thrilled to be able to work with the UK Sport Institute on 2 x projects helping support Team GB and ParalympicsGB athletes' mental health team. You can see the case studies for the athlete Games Time Journal here (created in partnership with paralympian Claire Taggart) .

The journals give athletes a resource to support mindfulness, focus and a place to record their feelings and experiences during the Games. The design and content supports positive behaviours that builds mental strength, balance and enables athletes to record their memories of this incredible time.

Our Creative Director, Tim Bassford had the opportunity to swing by Paris during The Games and soak in some of the olympic experience and get a sense of the atmosphere the athletes would encounter as they engaged with our interactive content. The journal was provided in both printed and digital interactive format, as well as a version for VI athletes.

The second project we worked on with ParalympicsGB was an illustrated map to aid athlete well being discussions. We adapted famous Paris landmarks with new names that represented emotions and states of mind that athletes may be feeling. These were illustrated in a painterly style to match the journal artwork. Watch a short video on this project below:

SPEAKING AND NETWORKING

We love live events. Meeting people in person, learning, networking and seeing some of the best practitioners out there share their knowledge and experience. We had an opportunity to speak at the brilliant Nottingham Digital Summit 2024 in September this year. The event organised by Hallam Digital raises money every year for a local charity. This year all proceeds from the event went towards the phenomenal Rainbow’s Hospice for Children and Young People.

Tim Bassford shared his keynote on ‘How to create content that delivers real change’ - using some of our examples from healthcare, sport and famous examples where behaviour change psychology has powered creative concepts that brought demonstrable impact. Look out for opportunities to see us doing more speaking events in the year ahead!...

As well as speaking at events we have been along to multiple industry events, learning, networking and getting inspired. The best of these was no doubt the InMotion Festival in London's Barbican.

CASE STUDY MASTERCLASS

We love telling stories about innovative new ideas. Case studies are a brilliant way to do this within a B2B context. And in 2024 we were really pleased to be able to travel the length and breadth of the country filming case studies for the mighty Innovate UK, capturing some of the amazing companies they have supported.

All of the video case studies we created were focussed on companies who are pushing boundaries across the foundation industries (metals, ceramics, glass, chemicals, paper and cement), sustainable heating and plastics. Each industry critical to the UK hitting its Net Zero goals.

Amongst many awesome projects our favourites were getting to capture the story of massive scale graphene-infused concrete, seeing how data-centre servers can be used to heat domestic boilers and chatting to the scientists behind a world first, super-intellient carbon-negative construction material!...

NEW PROJECTS

IN 2024 we worked with various ambitious organisations looking to communicate in new and creative ways to convey their brand message with impact and clarity. Here is a quick selection of some images behind the scenes on these eclectic campaigns…

NEW TURBINE CREATIVE WEBSITE

This year we also updated our website to include more service sections around Video, Branding and Marketing campaigns, showing the depth of our services better and also helping our SEO to work harder.

No doubt we’ll be continually updating our website with new work and journal entries in 2025 so keep checking back in for more news!

PROMOTIONAL CONTENT FOR NOTTINGHAM CASUALS RUGBY TEAM

As part of our continual support of grassroots sport we worked with Nottingham Casuals rugby team this year to create promotional video content. Filming at multiple matches across the different age ranges, genders and abilities of this club as well as a fun night shoot. Through this project we were able to showcase the wide range of players and the local community this club so brilliantly supports.

NEW STAFF

At lastly but certainly not least, we were really pleased to welcome Joana Matos to the Turbine Creative team as an additional video editor and animator to help boost our capacity. Joana is originally from Porto in Portugal and is a multi-skilled, multi-lingual creative! Having produced original content for Boots, TED Talks, and the Dragon Fly Cancer Trust to name a few.

We’ve loved seeing the additional ideas, skills, positivity and experience Joana brings to the team and can't wait to see what more awesome work she will produce in 2025!

And that wraps up our quick overview of 2024. We hope you have enjoyed reading about our latest developments. We can’t wait to get started in 2025 with renewed energy and increased ambition to help our clients communicate the very best of who they are, and what they can offer to the world with clarity and impact!

Needless to say, if there’s anything you think we could help you with, whether that’s marketing content creation with videos, animations, social media etc OR marketing and comms strategy work - we’d love to hear from you and discuss any upcoming projects you have.

From everyone at Turbine Creative, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and the very best for a super productive, peaceful and fulfilling 2025!
